Many travel eSIMs only provide roaming access to local networks. Your data may route through the provider’s home network overseas, which can affect speed, latency and reliability.
Our T-Mobile USA eSIM connects directly to the T-Mobile network in America. It is designed to work like a proper US carrier eSIM, rather than a data-only roaming eSIM.
A simple comparison helps. A traveller in the UK could use a cheap third-party roaming eSIM, or an official UK carrier eSIM. The third-party option may roam onto another network and route traffic overseas. The official carrier eSIM connects natively to its own network.
Will my phone work with this SIM or eSIM?
For the physical SIM, you can use iPhone 8 and newer, or most modern 5G phones from Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, Oppo, Motorola, Nokia, Xiaomi and Huawei. If you are not using an iPhone then your phone must be a 5G phone. A 4G only phone will not work.
For eSIM, compatible phones include iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel 4a and newer, plus many other eSIM phones.
Your phone must be unlocked. To check eSIM support, dial *#06#. If you see an EID, your phone supports eSIM.
Should I choose an eSIM or a physical SIM for my USA trip?
Choose eSIM if your phone supports it and you want fast delivery by email. You can install it by scanning a QR code, and you do not need to remove your UK SIM.
Choose a physical SIM if your phone does not support eSIM, or if you prefer inserting a plastic SIM card. You will usually need to remove your UK SIM while using it in the USA.

Can I receive verification texts to my UK number while in the USA?

When you're overseas, banking apps and other online services often require an extra security check before you can sign in. They commonly send a one-time verification code by SMS to your UK phone number.
With our USA eSIM, you can still receive these verification texts. Most eSIM compatible phones allow you to use your USA eSIM alongside your UK SIM or eSIM. If your UK number uses an eSIM, many phones support having both eSIMs turned on at the same time. If your UK number uses a physical SIM, you can use it alongside your USA eSIM.
If you prefer to keep your UK SIM or eSIM turned off while travelling, simply turn it back on whenever you need to receive a verification text. If you normally use a UK physical SIM and have removed it from your phone, just reinsert it when needed. This does not affect your USA eSIM.
Do I get 5G with my bundle, and is it extra?

Speeds depend on your phone, location, network coverage, signal strength and local network traffic. In strong 5G coverage areas, speeds can be very fast.
There is no separate 5G upgrade fee.
What network will I use in the USA?
You will use the T-Mobile USA network.
The bundle includes fast 5G/4G data, a real USA mobile number, USA calls and USA texts. Coverage is available across most of the USA, but coverage is not available in Alaska.

Do I get a USA mobile number?

Your USA number will look like this: 310-123-4567. For calls or texts from the UK, the format is +1 310 123 4567.
